Laura graduated from Grove City College with a BA in Political Science, Ursuline College with a MA in Education, and received her JD, Cum Laude, from Cleveland State College of Law in 2023. She began her career in education, teaching kindergarten in urban Newark, New Jersey, and third grade in rural Jefferson Area Local Schools located in Ashtabula County, Ohio.

It was the birth of Laura’s children, though, that sparked a passion for special education advocacy. Her son was born with Down syndrome in 2011 and, in a lucky twist of fate, her daughter was also born with Down syndrome in 2014. Once both children were in school, Laura became the ESC of the Western Reserve’s Parent Mentor. A Parent Mentor guides parents and guardians in navigating the special education process, helping them to develop their skills as advocates for their children.

Attending IEPs with families across Geauga County, Ohio, led to Laura attending law school in her 40s. It’s never too late to start a new career! Locally, she serves her community through as a Board Member with the Geauga County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
