At Laura H. Lemire, Attorney at Law LLC, we provide comprehensive legal advocacy to families navigating the special education system.
As a parent of two children with Down Syndrome, Laura H. Lemire-Janson, Esq., brings both legal knowledge and a deep personal understanding of what it means to advocate for children. She is uniquely equipped to advocate with both knowledge and heart, helping you feel seen, heard, and supported every step of the way.
Navigating special education law can feel overwhelming — but you don’t have to do it alone. We bring focused legal knowledge to every stage of the special education process. We understand the complexities of federal and state education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. We also seek to empower and train parents to advocate for their children on their own. Our belief is a successful legal representation means you won't need our services forever.
Your time is valuable. You can meet with Laura from the comfort of your home. Client-Attorney meetings will be held via Zoom or phone call. At the discretion of the client, Laura is available to attend school meetings in person.
Our mission goes beyond legal representation.
It’s about giving parents a voice and ensuring children receive the education and support in school they deserve.
With a personal understanding of the challenges families face and knowledge of special education law, we advocate with both heart and strategy. Every case is approached with care, clarity,
and a commitment to meaningful outcomes.
The consultation fee provides a record review, an opinion regarding whether you have a case, and, if you do, a recommendation on the direction to go.The fee is payable at the time of the consult, but the consult does not create an attorney client relationship unless a retainer agreement is signed. The amount required for representation varies and depends on the complexity of the issues.
Laura accepts a limited number of sliding scale payment and pro bono cases. If you feel that your case warrants consideration on these bases, feel free to contact the office to discuss your case.
Considerations when Hiring a Special Education Attorney:
Disputes with the School District:
If you're facing disagreements with the school regarding your child's special education services, accommodations, or placement, an attorney can help mediate or litigate the dispute.
Developing and Implementing IEPs (Individualized Education Programs): An attorney can ensure that your child's IEP is legally compliant and addresses their unique needs, as well as advocate for appropriate services and accommodations.
Section 504 Compliance: An attorney can help ensure the school is compliant with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and assert your child's rights if they've been discriminated against.
Navigating Complex Legal Issues: Special education law can be intricate, and an attorney can provide expert guidance and representation in navigating the legal processes and requirements.
When an Advocate is Not Enough: While advocates can provide valuable support, attorneys are licensed to practice law and can take legal actions that advocates cannot, such as filing lawsuits and representing you in court.
When you need to appeal an administrative decision: If you disagree with a decision made by a school district or administrative body, an attorney can help you file and pursue an appeal.
